Sleepovers are a great way to HELP and earn MONEY
By Donna Smith
When my husband and I first started Home Instead Senior Care 18 years ago, we had a young baby and little income. Starting a new business and a new family is hard!
But very quickly we gained a client who needed sleepover shifts and we decided that would be a great way for me to earn some money and still be fresh for our little girl during the day.
I loved that client, Betty. I would get to her apartment around 8pm. I would watch TV with her or play a game of cards. When she was ready, I would help her with her evening routine: getting PJs on, brushing teeth, even taking a bath if she wanted one.
After I tucked Betty in, I would call home and check in with my husband and baby. I had time to read a book before taking a nap myself.
Of course, Betty would get up during the night to use the bathroom or get a drink of water. I always dozed with one ear open, just like I did at home with a young one really! But I got enough sleep that I functioned fine the next morning.
I always set an alarm to be up and ready for the day before Betty would wake. I’d get her some breakfast and help her get ready for the day. She was a delight and sent me off for my day with a kiss on the cheek.
